Should Robbed a Bank Book Review

Shoulda Robbed A Bank
Hugh Yonn
Publisher: Rooty Tooty Candy Company
Publishing Date: April 29, 2012

Book Description:

An insider's hilarious tales from the marijuana trade.

If you are considering a marijuana offense to raise cash, rob a bank instead. The time spent in prison will be much less. A crime involving marijuana is a ‘very serious offense.’

These are tales of adventure relating multiple smuggling operations. Some successful, some not. Tales of the perfect off-loads involving multi-tons of the evil weed. Tales of mishaps, complete with lost aircraft, lost pot, and close calls with the infamous DEA.

The story of a wild party that lasted fourteen years until the dreaded: “They got us!”
No one was hurt—no one was injured—no one was killed—there were no victims.
Then why did they put these guys in prison?

If you are curious about the true story of the marijuana smuggling business, here it is—and it’s damned funny. Good times were had by all—until prison.

That was not much fun.

My Thoughts:

I thought ‘Shoulda Robbed A Bank’ was very well written and I was pleasantly surprised at how detailed the story was. It was a very interesting book, Hugh told his story in a very entertaining, sometimes even comical way. The story really flows; I still cannot believe some of the things Hugh has experienced. I feel like he did a great job of captivating the reader, once I started the story I didn’t want to put it down. I was so in tuned into what would happen next. It definitely didn’t take me long to read this book at all, I was just engrossed in it. It has some very interesting facts in the book; some of it frankly blew my mind.

For instance the fact that Hugh was sentenced to 15 years for a marijuana offense, he was told he would probably only serve 5 of those said years. Honestly even that is an outrageous amount of years for a marijuana offense considering criminals do so much worse and get practically nothing. The real cincher that got me here is that a fellow inmate of Hugh’s was arrested for armed robbery, he was sentence to 25 years but was told he would be out within a year. I don’t know about you but that doesn’t sit right with me. The man held up people at gun point and he got a slap on the hand.

Now I don’t smoke pot but I also don’t think it should be illegal. My mother and my great grandmother suffered through cancer and the horrendous treatment that went with it. My great grandmother went through hell and refused to use the aid of marijuana simply because it was illegal. My mother however broke down and smoked when it got really bad. Boy did it do wonders for her. So the way I feel that is we have something in our grasps that can help, especially with such a horrid disease, why not use it? Why do people have to suffer? Honestly most of the prescription medications out there are much more dangerous that weed! So is alcohol and they are both very legal. What kind of sense does that make? None I tell you. Have you ever heard of anyone overdosing on pot? No, I didn’t think so. How about going crazy and causing violence and mass destruction?  No again, ok then. I think I have made my point; this book just reinforced my outlook on the fact that the government has their priorities messed up.

I really did enjoy Hugh’s book and I would love to read more from him. I think he has had quite the life. I am really glad that Hugh decided to share his story, it was very good. I also believed he was wrongly sentenced. In the end maybe he should have robbed a bank. J

Arise Syrenka Series Book 3 Book Review

Arise
Syrenka Series Book # 3
Amber Garr
Genre: Fantasy/ Paranormal

Book Description:

With power comes the responsibility to accept its consequences.

After the betrayal of those closest to her, Eviana Dumahl struggles to cope with her new reality. Kidnapped, broken, and confused, she is forced to engage in a war that will alter merfolk politics forever. With her estranged father leading the charge, Eviana has no choice but to stand by his side. Her continued existence hinges on the acceptance of the power growing inside her, even when that means embracing the family’s dark lineage.

Kain Matthew will sacrifice the world for Eviana. And he is not alone. As time runs out, her friends fight to save her life and theirs. An unlikely alliance gives them the edge they need to take a stand, although it keeps Eviana’s heart trapped in the past. A new discovery explains some of her previous mistakes, but it may not be enough to stop her father’s plans. Merfolk, selkies, and water sprites work together to save their kind, only in this final battle, not everyone will survive.

In the striking series conclusion, Eviana will learn the true meaning of power, sacrifice, and love.

My Thoughts:

Let me begin by saying what a way to end a trilogy! What a touching, compelling novel!

I am truly addicted to these characters now. Amber Garr created such an amazing world, with such realistic, heartfelt characters

Eviana really seems doomed in this final installment nothing her and the group do seems to work against the great force of Lucian. Also many of their allies turn on them; it would seem their chances of winning were dwindling greatly. Will the good be able to overcome the evil or will Eviana be forced to marry Graham and do Lucian’s evil bidding forever?

So in this book Eviana has finally realized she has feelings for Kain, which is great! At least I think so, as you all know from my other reviews. I was absolutely dying for Eviana and Kain to get together. However the issue in this book is Lucian is still holding Eviana captive and Kain’s first attempt to rescue her falls through.

Kain and the council then gather the masses to create a new plan to help Eviana, unfortunately for Kain, Brendan becomes a part of this plan. Now in the second book I was very unhappy with Brendan but I have to say he redeemed himself in this final book. I won’t say how because I don’t want to give away too much. I loved the action in this book; there was definitely no shortage of it. I also really loved the plot. It was a very emotional and moving end to the wonderful series.

I seriously fell in love with the character’s Amber created and the way she tells a story.

The ending to this book was just magical. I couldn’t have pictured a better ending to this series. I definitely think Amber did a perfect job with all three novels. They are all amazing and I still think they should make these into movies J

I was beyond impressed with this book and Amber has a lifelong fan in me.

ReAwakened Book Review

ReAwakened
Angel Creek Book 2
Ada Adams
Genre: Paranormal

Book Description:

Becoming a vampire guardian was Dawn Fairchild’s ticket out of the Scarlet House. Fresh off a successful mission, life in Angel Creek should have been great. But when her sort-of-maybe-boyfriend, Sebastian, disappears on a quest to help a beautiful vampire from his past, Dawn finds herself amidst a web of danger, lies, and deceit.

Joining forces with Razor, an enigmatic rebel lacking both a verbal and a physical filter, and her band of Misfits—Brooke, Sophie, Hunter, and Seth—Dawn is thrust into a race against the clock to solve the mystery surrounding brutal Born kidnappings and come to terms with the sudden discovery of her own unique powers.

Dawn has only one chance to face her demons and overcome all obstacles standing in her way as she embarks on the biggest mission of her life—one that threatens a deadly outcome for all involved.

My Thoughts:

‘ReAwakened’ was definitely an action packed sequel that kept you on your toes. If you think life got crazy for Dawn in ‘ReVamped’ buckle you seatbelts because you are in for one heck of a rollercoaster ride.

I really liked the character dynamics in this installment. In ‘ReVamped’ you met everyone that is going to become the guardians; they become a group and start training together and such. In ‘ReAwakened’ they each really come into their own and they become a sort of tight knit- fighting bad guys-family. It was a very nice aspect of the book.

There was a whole lot of action happening in this book and I definitely think that this is a great addition to the book it kept my attention.

I absolutely loved the twists and turns in this book. The Aurora bombshell was just genius and there was also another shocker with another character that I will not reveal, it was just amazing! This book was just pure brilliance. The vampire phenomenon is definitely happening right now and it takes some major talent, creativity, and uniqueness to stand out among the masses. Ada definitely has what it takes to do just that. I just love the world she has created. Both of her novels have been a breath of fresh air for me in this paranormal genre that has caught on like fire.

I adore Ada’s writing and will continue to be and avid reader of hers.

Genre: Fantasy/ Paranormal

Book Description:

Life as a mermaid can be suffocating. Eviana Dumahl has returned home as a clan leader, an orphan, and a heartbroken teenage girl. Her parents are dead and her boyfriend, Brendan, has decided that he needs some time away. While battling her inner turmoil, Eviana is forced into the war that Lucian Sutherland has incited amongst her own kind. With the help of Kain, her friend and formally betrothed, the two work together to prove that they deserve their birthrights as young merfolk leaders. When the Council requests a demonstration of Eviana’s mermaid powers, she finds herself with an opportunity to win back Brendan’s heart. But her orders to train with a repulsive merman and the presence of an attractive new suitor challenges Eviana to embrace her leadership and resist temptation. Lucian is after her, and no one seems to understand why. Loyalties are tested as the casualties increase, showing Eviana that sometimes it is impossible to delineate between friends and enemies. Betrayal is the second book of The Syrenka Series trilogy following Eviana and her friends as they navigate through the challenges of existing in a secret world.

My Thoughts:

Eviana Dumahl went through a whirlwind of heartache in the first book of the Syrenka series. Now in this this second installment, ‘Betrayal’ Eviana is back with her family and friends. She now has to take her role as clan leader now that her parents have been brutally murdered by a crazy mermaid. Eviana and Kain settle into their clan leader roles and go on to meet the council, which are the head of the mermaids, in order to discuss what to do in their battle against their biggest villain Lucian Sutherland. This book has no shortage of drama or action. Eviana unravels some of the mysterious behind Lucian’s intentions but the question is will she be able to handle it or will she let it destroy her?

I am absolutely in love with this series I wish they would make them into movies! Those would be amazing to see on the big screen! As you know if you read my review of the first book, ‘Promises’ I did like Brendan but a big part of me hoped for Eviana and Kain to get together. Well ‘Betrayal’ totally changed my view on Brendan; I no longer like him at all. I think his actions in the second book are very selfish and childish and I really hope Eviana is done with him because now he just grates on my nerves. I absolutely adore Kain and I believe him and Eviana belong together. I did love all the drama the love triangle caused though. There’s also another man introduced into Eviana’s life in this one his name is Graham and he is a council member. He also plays a very big role in this book.

I don’t want to give you too many spoilers because this is just too good of a book but I just loved and devoured this book in two days. There was so much happening that I did not see coming it kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat. This series really is dynamite! It was a very fresh read for me, very unique and very enjoyable.

I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the final installment in this series!

Amber Garr is definitely one to be on the lookout for.

Merge

Merge
Renata F. Barcelos
A sequel to MEAN and My Sore Hush-A-Bye

Book Description:

  • ** Please note that this short story (around 8K words) is a SEQUEL to Mean: A Psychological Thriller Novelette and My Sore Hush-a-Bye. Do not read it before these books if you don't want those stories to be spoiled! **

Cassandra Connelly and Camille Marie Jones: two women who suffered unthinkable child abuse. Their lives were forever stained by their ordeals during their childhoods.

The way they reacted to it, however, was completely different.

Five years after the events of Mean: A Psychological Thriller Novelette and My Sore Hush-a-Bye, see what happened to Camille and Cassandra, and how they will react when facing one another.

My Thoughts:

So as you have all probably figured out by now I truly just adore everything Renata writes. Her writing is brilliant and Merge is no different. It is the sequel to her two first books, MEAN: A psychological thriller and My Sore Hush-A-Bye, both of which I have reviewed and loved. So if you haven’t read those you will need to before you read Merge or you will be totally lost. Now that I have clarified that! Let me express my feeling for this book!

So in my review for My Sore Hush-A-Bye I wrote about how people need to realize the deeper effects of child abuse and really look at that. Well in this book Camille is doing a thesis on the ‘Criminal effects of child abuse’ I was really blown away. I love how Renata has Camille focusing on that and moving on in the right direction with her life. It takes the reader in a great direction.

At the end of My Sore Hush-A-Bye, I really wasn’t sure which way Camille was going to go. I was worried she wasn’t going to make anything of herself; she was in such a deep state of denial for so long about Bob. However I loved this continuation of her story and where her career choice has taken her,

I adore the fact that Renata did a story with Cassandra and Camille together, it was completely brilliant and it was blended together flawlessly.

Cassandra has changed completely from her book MEAN, she has completely given up her calm reserve and let the mean overtake her. That was rather interesting to read. The damage to her cannot be undone it seems.

The ending to this book just left me hankering for more. What a thought to leave you with! I won’t say what but I assure you, it will mess with your mind and those are my favorite kind of books. Another fantastic book from an amazing author!
